Kingston Primary School

Home Learning Hub

A collection of useful websites and activities to help children practise, consolidate and extend their learning at home.

A little learning goes a long way

Children do not need to spend hours completing extra work at home. Reading regularly, practising key number facts, learning spellings and exploring subjects they enjoy are all valuable. The websites below provide additional opportunities to practise skills and discover new things.

Please remember that these activities are optional extra learning unless your child's teacher has specifically asked them to complete something.

Our school learning platforms

DoodleLearning – Every Kingston child has an individual Doodle login. Doodle provides personalised Maths and English practice and adapts activities to each child's needs. Children can use Doodle through a web browser or download the relevant apps to a compatible tablet or device. Short, regular sessions are recommended.

Times Tables Rock Stars (TTRS) – Available to Kingston children from Year 2. Children have their own individual login and can practise multiplication and division facts through games and challenges. Regular practice is particularly useful for building fluency and confidence.

Ideas for extra learning at home

  • Read every day: Read a school reading book, library book, comic, magazine or information book. Talk about the characters, vocabulary, facts and events.
  • Practise number facts: Use Doodle, TTRS or a quick mental-maths challenge. Ask questions such as 'What is 7 × 8?' or 'What is half of 36?'
  • Learn spellings: Practise weekly spellings using look–cover–write–check, then use each word in a sentence.
  • Write for a purpose: Write a story, diary entry, letter, review, explanation, instructions or information page about something interesting.
  • Explore the world: Choose a country, historical person, animal, invention or scientific question and find out five interesting facts.
  • Talk about learning: Ask your child to explain something they have learned recently. Explaining an idea in their own words is a powerful way to strengthen understanding.
